Driving through the countryside here you will see just how popular this sport is. Horses are beautifully kept, and it shows. The Pompadour National Dressage Championship is held
here on 17-20 July. Pompadour (the equine spiritual centre for France - and once the royal stud) is itself a beautiful and interesting place to visit. There are guided tours,
but please enquire in advance if you require an English speaking guide.
There are plenty of schools in the area, and many will cater for groups, or on an individual basis. Prices are much lower than in the UK. Riding hats are available to borrow
at most stables at no extra charge, but suitable footgear is required (boots or closed shoes).
The Ambazac hills (5 minutes from the Chateau) are popular for pony trekking, as the views are so beautiful, and there are trails that take in lakeland, and you can even
use the trails once trodden by Richard the Lionheart. Please contact us to put you in touch with one of the schools. Most treks are suitable for inexperienced riders.
